Squaw Island
Destination Site

Description: Squaw Island is a small rocky island located in the northwest corner of Canandaigua Lake.  At only a ¼ acre, it is New York’s smallest wildlife management area. While this is not a place to picnic, people are allowed to go on the island when gulls are not present.  However, paddlers should not enter the island or disturb the gulls once the gulls arrive, which is typically the end of the May. Paddlers can contact NYS DEC if they have any questions on the gulls or the island’s use.
